SXSW 2012 - Major Laser Focus: From Dilettantes To Polymaths

“I can’t do one thing. I am too good.” Childish Gambino/Donald Glover. It used to be that the internet had made it easy for anyone to be an expert in just one area. Then people start dabbling into different interests and became dilettantes. Now people are becoming gurus in many areas and calling themselves polymaths. There is no need to spend 10,000 hours or 10 years doing ONE thing when you can do 10,000 things in ONE year. This talk will cover how has blogging, tweeting, tumbling facilitated pivoting polymath media monsters. Are they proving Malcolm Gladwell and “Tiger Moms” wrong?
